Padma awards announced; VVS Laxman wins Padma Shri

The Padma awards have been announced and cricketer VVS Laxman has been awarded the Padma Shri.

Film stars Shashi Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman, ITC chief YC Deveshwar, former foreign secretary Shyam Saran, ICICI Bank managing director Chanda Kochar and music composer Khayyam are among the 31 awarded Padma Bhushan.

Laxman, cinestars Tabu, Kajol and Irrfan Khan, singer Usha Uthup, sportspersons Krishna Poonia and Gangan Narang are among 84 personalities awarded the Padma Shri.

Former national security advisor Brajesh Mishra, Wipro chief Azim Premji are among the 13 awarded the Padma Vibushan.

Deputy chairperson of planning commission Montek Singh
Ahluwalia, late economist LC Jain, historian Kapila Vatsayan
and former chairman of finance commission Vijay Kelkar were also awarded Padma Vibhushan.
